Answer: Solutions will come from both digital and non-digital interventions.

  • Further research and validation to scope business and product opportunities
The next steps could include a competitor analysis of scheduling or identity verification systems. Further research into other types of care workers in the ecosystem is recommended to verify issues with trust.

  • Social support to relieve workplace trauma
If social and trauma support is not provided by the businesses, what are the existing social/digital mechanisms in use or training that can be integrated into a care worker’s workflow?

  • Importing successful non-digital work models into the ecosystem
Greater work scheduling control and transparency for low-ranked workers can be achieved by importing lessons from one successful home care self-organising system called the buurtzorg.

Let’s talk about Philips Smart TV as a central hub.

The views here are based on my re-analysis of 17 structured interviews with other seniors previously done by the TU Delft team. The attitudinal questions were standardised and categorised around general health and device testing.

Verdict: The SmartTV encounters great obstacles as a single content platform for clients including identity verification, video calling, emailing, etc.

  • Vague product positioning
The Smart TV competes with mobile screens such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and even computer monitors. It has similar functionality and purpose but with limited use (watching long-form content), complex usability, and control issues.

  • It is not a computer
Scheduling, doctor consultations, and identity verification are some activities that can be done easily on more accessible mobile devices with in-built cameras, a robust app development community, and content. At most, a Smart TV is a secondary or tertiary connectivity device.

  • Specialist Functionality
A Smart TV remains a large screen suitable for long-form content that might be more suitable for a specialist function. This remains to be identified and tested.
